Biodiesel is manufactured from edible as well as non-edible oils, Biodiesel is a high octane fuel that optimizes engine performance. It can be blended suitably with diesel and the existing storage facilities infrastructure can be used with minor alterations for storage and blending Bio diesel. It also acts as a lubricant thus Biodiesel increases the engine life. The sources of non-edible oils (as per the Govt. of India policy, edible oils cannot be used) are Jatropha, Pongamia, Neem, Salvodara, Acacia, Karanj etc. but Jatropha is the preferred plant, as it

  • can be grown on arid land
  • is insect-resistant
  • bears fruits in about 3 years
  • has a life span of 40 years approximately

Aiming for sustainable development, huge tracts of unproductive, uncultivated, barren and non-agricultural land are proposed to be used for the growth of Jatropha and Karanj plants. Surplus land at our existing supply locations (650 acres at POL Depots and LPG bottling plants) has been used for plantation and we propose to cover a total 1000 acres of land for Jatropha plantation.

The plantations would be a significant contribution towards environment protection, prevention of soil erosion and provision of feedstock for manufacturing Biodiesel.
