21 Nov 2016 | BPCL

BPCL’s ace shuttler P.V. Sindhu bagged her first Super Series Premier Title after defeating China’s Sun Yu 21-11, 17-21, 21-11 in the final of the China Open Badminton Tournament on Sunday. The Rio Olympic Silver Medalist became the second Indian woman to win the China Open after BPCL’s very own Saina Nehwal who had won the title in 2014.

Sindhu came in to the final after defeating South Korea’s Sung Li Hyun 11-21, 23-21, 21-19 in a thrilling Semifinal encounter. In the finals Sindhu started in dominant fashion by winning the first set 21-11. In the second set she was leading 14-10 but Sun Yu came back strongly to win the set 21-17. It all came down to the decisive third set where both the players were fighting hard to supersede each other. Scores were levelled at 6-6. Sindhu moved ahead 11-8 at the break with powerpacked smashes which Sun Yu failed to negotiate. With some costly errors by Sun Yu and momentum on her side, Sindhu quickly moved on to match point. Sindhu eventually won the set easily 21-11 and with it an exciting final!

On behalf of BPCL family we congratulate Ms. P.V. Sindhu on a remarkable achievement and wish her all the very best for future endeavors!
