Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for BPCL’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in The Nilgiris and Erode Geographical Areas of Tamil Nadu

Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated, laid the foundation stone and flagged off key Energy, Highway, Railway and Rural Connectivity projects at Panjapur, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, in the presence of Hon’ble Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal.
Among the major initiatives, BPCL’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in The Nilgiris and Erode Geographical Area represents a significant step in expanding cleaner energy access across the region. Authorized by PNGRB in March 2022, the project involves an investment of ₹3,685 crore to develop a comprehensive natural gas network.
On the occasion, the Hon’ble Prime Minister highlighted that BPCL’s CGD project will provide Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to nearly 9 lakh households and hundreds of commercial establishments. With PNG flowing directly into homes, the project will significantly enhance ease of living while enabling industries and businesses to transition to cleaner fuels.
The project is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities. Over the next eight years, its environmental impact is projected to be equivalent to planting nearly 4 crore trees, reinforcing India’s commitment to sustainable development and a cleaner energy future.
