CLEAN FUELS FOR A CLEANER ENVIRONMENT
The rising level of air pollution from vehicular emissions has created the need for cleaner fuels. Hence we opted for the conversion of Liquefied Petroleum Gas as an alternative to auto fuel. Bharat Petroleum was the first oil company to set up Auto LPG Dispensing Stations (ALDS).
BPCL launched LPG for Cars as a pilot project in Delhi, where vehicles ran on LPG for the first time in India. A strong network of Auto LPG Dispensing Stations (ALDS) has now been developed across various cities in the country.
CNG is a mixture of hydrocarbons comprising approximately 80% - 90% methane in a gaseous form and has a low energy density because of which it is compressed to a pressure of 200 to 250 Kg/cm2. This gas is stored in a cylinder and thus the name Compressed Natural Gas. It uses specialized conversion kits that transform gas into environmentally efficient fuel.
It is commonly referred to as Green Fuel because it is lead-free, has the ability to reduce harmful emissions and increase the life of spark plugs. Countries using CNG as fuel have also observed that it helps extend the life of lubricating oils because it is free of contamination and it helps in the dilution of crankcase oil.
Here are the reasons behind CNG’s popularity.
Alternative fuels are already making a big mark in the world and are likely to rise in popularity in the coming decades. Over 10,500 private cars and taxis in the city of Mumbai and the entire public transport system in Delhi runs on CNG. Research has revealed that automotive LPG and CNG are not likely to completely replace petrol and diesel but will be used in public transport.
