2018-02-03

In consonance with the Act East Policy of the Govt. of India, a Memorandum of Understanding was entered on 3rd day of February 2018 at Guwahati between BPCL and the Government of Assam in the Advantage Assam, Global Investor summit. As per the MOU, BPCL will establish a POL Terminal on 70 acres land at Sonapur, Dist. Kamrup (Metro), 35 kms south-east of Guwahati, on Numaligarh – Siliguri Pipeline, at an Investment of Rs. 350 Cr. On behalf of BPCL, State Head Retail, North East, Sh. Peeyush Gupta, signed the MOU.

The POL terminal, proposed to be commissioned by Dec’2021, will be the 1st Full – fledged POL TOP, with TW loading facilities, owned by BPCL in North East Region. It is a landmark development, as the POL depot is crucial to North East catering to 45 high volume districts in Assam and Meghalaya, besides opening the gateway of POL products to the High potential states of Tripura, Mizoram and even Manipur thru the Jiribam route.

The proposed POL terminal is a Green Initiative to improve BPCL carbon footprint, as the product will move a distance of approx.. 200 km by Pipeline, thereby reducing RTKM of each TL by 400 km by Road, ensuring faster supplies to RO Network. It will further compliment the Numaligarh Marketing Terminal, to handle increased thruput with its refinery expansion plans, and creating redundancy in the event of planned and unplanned shutdown at times, of a single supply source. This will ensure uninterrupted supply of products to our esteemed consumers.

Government of Assam would facilitate BPCL to obtain necessary permissions/ registrations/ approvals/ clearances etc. from the concerned Departments/ Agencies/ Authorities of the State, as per the existing policies/rules and regulations of the State Government.
