Renewable Energy |
Will there ever be a time when we can use nothing but renewable energy to power our world. May not, but there will be a time when nonconventional energy will be an integral part of our lives. Solar, Wind, Bio fuels,Tidal, Geothermal, Fuel Cells, Hydrogen, are various forms of non coventional energy. Bharat Petroleum as a responsible energy company has made first big strides towards harnessing some of them. |

Biodiesel |
Biodiesel Fuel can be produced from a variety of natural crops including rapeseed, soyabean, mustard, flax, sunflower, canola, palm oil, hemp, jatropha and waste vegetable oils. The latest to the list being Tobacco. This fuel source is said to reduce engine wear and produce less harmful emissions. BPCL proposes cultivation of 1 million hectares of Jatropha in U.P (read about our 1-1-1 plan in our website www.bharatpetroleum.in) |

Solar Energy |
The Sun they say can offer more energy than we can consume. So why is the world worried? It is said that to tap the energy is very expensive. The world is working towards a cheaper solution. Even Bharat Petroleum is working with the Punjab State Electricity Board to ensure that better economies can be obtained. A 1 MW solar farm is proposed to be built in a JV with PSEB |

Wind Energy |
Traditional wind mills looked as romantic as this. However realizing their potential and R&D in this field has resulted in the modern day wind farms. Wind farms comprise of many thousands of windmills (each capable of generating up to 2.5 MW power) placed in wind tunnels (High wind speed areas). BPCL has 2 windmills in Karnataka that generate 5 MW of power and are connected to the national grid |

Hydrogen Fuel |
Hydrogen is not an energy source, but an energy carrier because it takes a great deal of energy to extract it from water. It is useful as a compact energy source in fuel cells and batteries. Many companies are working hard to develop technologies that can efficiently exploit the potential of hydrogen energy. BPCL has experimented with hydrogen fuel in our LPG bottling plant in Bangalore. |
