BPCL enables zero cost child heart surgeries for children with Congenital Heart Diseases at Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospitals

BPCL has partnered with Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospitals and enabled free of cost child heart surgeries for needy children with Congenital Heart Disease. BPCL, under their CSR initiatives, carried out this annual campaign on Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day. Over 4100+ children have benefited from the project and they are expected to treat 9000-12000 children by next year. BPCL has provided all critical medical equipment for the hospital in Mumbai and now pledged to treat 150 underprivileged children who would be treated totally free at Sai Sanjeevani Hospitals in Haryana and Chhattisgarh.

To commemorate Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day on 14.02.2023, Shri Sukhmal Jain, Director (Marketing), BPCL, spent an entire day at Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, with children undergoing treatment at the hospital, and spoke to their families.

BPCL CSR grabs Global CSR Excellence & Leadership Awards 2022.

BPCL CSR won Global CSR Excellence & Leadership Awards on 24th March, 2022 at Mumbai for the category “Concern for Health”.

BPCL has actively carried out various interventions under the ambit of healthcare and sanitation. The award was conferred for ‘An effort to eliminate manual scavenging through usage of robotic manhole cleaning machines along with numerous other interventions undertaken to combat Covid’19”.

The award was handed over to CSR Team by Mr. S.K Dutt, Senior Advisor, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

In line with company’s vision to energize lives, CSR initiatives are undertaken for development of the poorer sections of the society. One such initiative taken up by BPCL was the support for construction of farmers’ dormitory blocks, staff quarters and dining block at Ekalavya Centre for Organic Agriculture Research and Training (ECOART) in partnership with Ekalavya Foundation at Vikarabad District, Telangana. The inauguration of the same was done by Shri K. Padmakar, Chairman & Managing Director on February 10, 2021 (Wednesday) in the presence of Mr P. S Ravi, Executive Director (Retail), Mr Kurian Parambi, Executive Director (HR), Mr Saibal Mukherjee, State Head (Retail) Telangana along with other dignitaries from BPCL & Ekalavya Foundation.

Ekalavya Foundation is working in the areas of rural and urban upliftment of socially and financially marginalized communities through its various programs in the field of organic farming & community empowerment/development. The institute also conducts research on various organic farming practices in collaboration with reputed research institutes thus moulding youngsters in organic farming and support them to become change agents for social and financial upliftment of rural communities in the long run.

The facilities provided by BPCL would ensure safe and comfortable accommodation/dining facilities to the farmers on the campus hailing from nearby villages and would also help them gain training in organic farming methods and practices; which would ultimately help them achieve self-sufficiency in farming and allied agri-farming activities for better livelihood management.

We are positive that we will be able to bring greater change in the community, empowering the rural population to grow in a better and more progressive environment, by taking up such initiatives.

BPCL CSR Initiative: Hon. Minister – MoPNG inaugurates Primary School in Betul, Madhya Pradesh

BPCL has supported construction of Primary School Building in Bharat Bharat Skiksha Samiti Campus. The existing school building was 50 years old and, was in dilapidated condition. With the increase in the enrolment of students over the years, the school was facing space crunch to accommodate the students hailing from nearby 38 tribal and remote villages. BPCL has supported construction of the ground floor of the primary school building comprising of 14 rooms with full electrification works etc.

On 18th January 2020, the school building was inaugurated by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister, Petroleum and Natural Gas in the presence of Shri Jayesh Shah, Executive Director (HRS), BPCL and other dignitaries from BPCL and Bharat Bharti Shiksha Samiti.

Bharat Bharti Shiksha Samiti, is an institution registered under Societies Registration Act by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in the year 1959 with an aim to provide quality education to underprivileged ones in the society. Since then, the school is relentlessly working to provide quality education and residential facilities to children from lower socio economic background, schedule caste and schedule tribes. Situated on a vast campus of 50 acres in Betul, Madhya Pradesh, apart from basic quality education the school provides exposure to students to various kinds of activities like Sports, cultural events, water resource management, bio-agro management etc. for their holistic development.

BPCL is proud to facilitate quality education to children from the lower socio economic background through construction of the infrastructure. BPCL’s efforts in this regard were much appreciated by the dignitaries and the event was widely covered in local media.

Inauguration of IISC

In alignment with the vision of the Company, its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives strive to Energise Lives of the communities nationwide. BPCL has contributed towards the goal of achieving Sustainable Development and made significant progress in the focus areas of Education, Water Conservation, Skill Development, Health & Hygiene and Community Development.

Our commitment to education has not waned for over a decade. More than 8 lakh beneficiaries have been reached out through our education interventions so far. Carrying forward the tradition, a new hostel block for women at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore is supported by BPCL under its CSR interventions. The hostel block was inaugurated on February 4, 2020 by Shri. Jayesh Shah, Executive Director (HRS), BPCL and Prof. Anurag Kumar, Director, IISc in the gracious presence of dignitaries from BPCL as well as senior faculty members, staff and students of IISc.

IISc is India’s premier institution for higher education and research. The Institute is keen on encouraging more women students to pursue careers in science and engineering, in order to address the gender inequality in science and technology. It has produced several outstanding women scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs of India. Currently about 25% of students at IISc are women and the proportion has been increasing continuously in recent times. To support this increasing number, the Institute needed to establish a new women’s hostel with modern amenities. Several women students also come from disadvantaged sections of the community and from backward regions and far-flung areas, and therefore require sufficient, secure and comfortable accommodation on campus.

Contribution towards the nation building has always been the constant endeavour of BPCL and we strive to take it to greater heights every day!

Winner of ‘Golden Peacock Award for Corporate Social Responsibility 2018’

Golden Peacock Awards, instituted by the Institute of Directors (IOD), India, is regarded as a benchmark of Corporate Excellence worldwide. It is to stimulate and help organizations to rapidly accelerate the pace of stake-holder oriented improvement process. It is a powerful self-assessment process and a way to build an organizations’ brand equity on 'Corporate Social Responsibility'.

The Golden Peacock Award Trophy and Certificate was presented to BPCL on 17th January 2019, at Hotel Taj Lands End in Mumbai (India), in the presence of distinguished gathering of business leaders during Institute Of Directors’ (IOD) 13th annual International Conference on CSR. Mr. Ernest Rozario (General Manager, CSR, HRS) and other CSR Team members were invited to receive the award.

India’s Top Companies for Sustainability and CSR 2017- 3rd year in a row

The study was done by the Responsible Business Rankings in partnership with IIM Udaipur to evaluate the performance of the India Companies for Sustainability and CSR parameters. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd has been ranked 12th in the “The Best Companies for Sustainability and CSR” list.

It covers industries as diverse as automobiles, banks, FMCG, infrastructure, information technology, metals and mining, oil, power, steel, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and others.

The study was based on four main criteria; Governance, Disclosure, Stakeholders and Sustainability. These four factors are assigned weights of 20% for Governance, 15% for Disclosure, 35% for Sustainability and 30% for Stakeholders respectively and form the basis of the ranking. These weights were based on the outcome of a Delphi study with industry leaders and academics.

BPCL extends support for modern MRI machine at RKM Seva Pratishthan Hospital at Kolkata

The partnership between BPCL and Ramakrishna Mission has extended over 7 years and spans across several developmental areas which include providing quality education, improving access to healthcare for the poor, placement linked vocational Skilling, support towards clean energy and others. Both organisations work in similar focus areas and are therefore well aligned to be partners.

On 6th July of 2018, BPCL and RKM Seva Pratishthan senior officials inaugurated the newly set-up, ultra-modern 1.5 Tesla MRI machine on the ground floor of the hospital. On behalf of BPCL, Shri. M.V. Prabhakaran- CGM (HRS), Shri E Rozario- GM CSR (HRS), Smt. Mallika Ganguly- DGM (HRS, East) and others were part of the inauguration ceremony. The function was also attended by Swami Bodhasaranandaji, Swami Rajiveshanandaji from Ramakrishna Belur Math and Swami Nityakamanandaji (Secretary of RKM Seva Pratishthan). During the ceremony, the Swamijis from Ramakrishna Mission as well as the doctors and staff of the hospital expressed their commitment to the community in providing quality healthcare and also their gratitude to BPCL for the continued support extended.

In this project, through Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan medical institution, BPCL is proud to facilitate the provision of high quality MRI scans to around 5000 patients annually at a minimum charge.
