Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is spearheading India’s transition to cleaner skies through its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) initiative. The company plans to commission our first SAF production facility by end of 2026, aligning with the government’s indicative target of 1% SAF blending with aviation turbine fuel. We are developing SAF units across our refineries in Mumbai, Kochi, and Bina, leveraging approved pathways like co processing, HEFA and Alcohol-to-Jet and also exploring other technologies with a focus to optimise the cost and availability of category of feedstock. SAF, derived from renewable feedstocks like agricultural waste, used cooking oil, and non-food crops, will reduce lifecycle of greenhouse gas emissions significantly. This initiative not only supports India’s net-zero target but also promises economic benefits by creating rural income opportunities through feedstock sourcing, positioning BPCL in sustainable aviation solutions.
